There’s a really nice feature on “the blues” by John Morthland, regular contributor to eMusic. First off, you don’t have to be a “blues expert” to enjoy blues music. And if you don’t know where to start diving into the blues, this feature is a good place to go. It’s titled “Alligator: 40 at 40”.
Chicago-based Alligator Records is 40 years old. It’s a label that has preserved blues from the past while being a home to present-day bands and musicians since 1971. Morthland lays out 40 albums in the Alligator catalog to demonstrate Alligator’s heritage and authenticity.
The feature is found at eMusic, a service that has been around longer than Apple’s iTunes. eMusic is similar to the well-known iTunes in that it’s an internet destination to preview and buy music downloads, but it’s got a different attitude. They describe themselves as “the digital music club for music lovers and artists. We do things differently…we put the music in context, making meaningful music connections across a mix of new and old.” Read about eMusic here. Custom Channels uses eMusic and we recommend it.Share this:
