Christmas Music Beyond The Timeless Classics

Posted by John on November 8th, 2010

santaChristmas music thrives on memories, nostalgia and timeless classics.  While there’s nothing wrong with Nat King Cole singing about the chestnuts roasting or Burl Ives happily telling the story of Rudolph, there are a lot more holiday and Christmas songs that are very appropriate for radio stations and businesses to play post-Thanksgiving through December.

Christmas music remains very popular for radio listeners and retail shoppers of all ages.  So we at Custom Channels frequently mix in with Bing Crosby and Jose Feliciano some of these off-the-beaten-path Christmas songs on our holiday channels for in-store, in-office and radio listening.

Fresh Versions of Christmas Classics

  • Sheryl Crow – “The Christmas Song”
  • Big Head Todd & The Monsters – “Feliz Navidad”
  • Everclear – “Santa Baby”
  • Jack Johnson – “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”
  • Ray Charles – “Winter Wonderland”
  • Brad Paisley – “Jingle Bells” (an instrumental guitar version)
  • Sarah McLachlan – “Happy Xmas”
  • U2 – “I Believe In Father Christmas”
  • Lady Antebellum – “Silver Bells”

Non-Traditional Songs With the Christmas Spirit

  • Rob Thomas – “A New York Christmas”
  • Brian Setzer Orchestra – “Boogie Woogie Santa Claus”
  • Colbie Caillat – “Mistletoe”
  • John Mellencamp – “Teddi’s Song”
  • Mindy Smith – “It Really Is A Wonderful Life”
  • Taylor Swift – “Last Christmas”
  • Guster – “Mamacita Donde Esta Santa Claus”
  • ‘N Sync – “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays”
  • Pearl Jam – “Someday At Christmas”

Custom Channels creates Christmas music channels for radio station web sites.  And many of Custom Channels’ retail, restaurant and web clients weave holiday music into their custom music mix during December.
